K & Q

This is a packaging design for baked goods (stick cakes, financiers). With a length to width ratio of 8:1, the sides of these sleeves are extremely long and are covered in a checkerboard pattern. The pattern continues onto the front, which also features a centrally located window through which the contents of the sleeve can be seen. When all eight sleeves contained in this gift set are aligned, the beautiful checkered pattern of a chessboard is revealed. K&Q makes your special occasion as elegant as the tea time of a king and queen.

Miyabi Monaka

This is a packaging design for wafer cake filled with bean jam. The packages are designed with tatami motifs to evoke a Japanese room. They also came up with a sleeve style package design in addition to the packages. This made it possible to (1) show a traditional fireplace, a unique feature of a tea room, and (2) create tea rooms in 2-mat, 3-mat, 4.5-mat, 18-mat, and various other sizes. The backs of the packages are decorated with designs other than the tatami motif so they can be sold separately.

Some words in several well-known phrases were changed to accentuate attention on the woolen quality of the product. For internet shop with delivery by post the designer produced a brand mailing tape with a post owl instead of a post dove.

The beauty in the details of insects was the insight to build on the visual identity. The biggest challenge is to create an appeal rather than develop repulsive insectological associations and not to shock unprepared consumers with options for serving, and to use illustration to communicate beauty. The main challenge is to transform the association of disgust into beauty.
